Book Week 2017
The purpose of this week was to highlight the importance of reading, both for learning and pleasure.
It kick-started with a pyjama themed ‘Cuddle up and Read’ day, as well as a visit from Stan Cullimore, a British author. Stan was a huge success; the children loved hearing some of his work and during workshops he shared some fantastic writing tips with the children.
The Book Swap event was extremely popular this year, with the children having the opportunity to swap a book with a friend. This enabled children to get great new books to read without having to buy new ones.
We received some fantastic entries for our three competitions – the unusual photo competition, potato character competition, and the diorama competition – parents are encouraged to take a look at the winning entries, which can be found in the reception area of the new campus. All children in Primary had the opportunity to test their spelling skills by taking part in the Spelling Bee competition. Congratulations to Mukhammadaziz Khayrullaev from 5B, who was crowned BST Spelling Bee 2017 champion.
On the final day of Book Week the children and teachers were invited to dress up as their favourite book character. There were some really interesting characters, including The Joker, Willy Wonker and Dorothy from 'The Wizard of Oz'.
A big thank you to parents for helping during Book Week. We are very grateful for your support with the competition entries and helping with the costumes. It was delightful to see how many of our children genuinely love curling up with a book. Keep reading during the holidays!
